RATTLEROCK 2023 INFO

Rattlerock Ultra is a premier ultra event in Northern West Virginia. The race consists of 50k and 25k distances on rocky, technical trails. The ultra distance boasts over 5,500 feet of elevation gain—“More Gain, More Pain”—making it one of the toughest 50k races in the state. This event is organized by OFF THE GRID RUNNING, and it will be held on the lush, beautiful trails of Coopers Rock State Forest. The mission of the event is to grow accessibility to quality ultramarathons in the area, while promoting businesses that local trail runners value.

                                                         —RACE DETAILS—

DATE: Saturday, July 22, 2023

LOCATION: Coopers Rock State Park   61 County Line Dr., Bruceton Mills, WV 26525

START TIME: 6:30am

CUTOFF: 9 hours (3:30pm) …it’s a tough one

SWAG: TECH TEE (the coolest) for all registered runners who show up. FINISHER SUNGLASSES (also very rad) must be earned.

MARKINGS: The course will be marked with extreme care, and it will be checked right before the event to ensure that no runner gets lost due to spaced out or missing markings or signs.

COURSE: A 7.9+ mile loop repeated 2 times or 4 times.

We won't be able to support DISTANCE-SWITCHING. I know a lot of you 25kers might be feeling great and just be dying to run twice the distance you signed up for, but...we can't officially do it.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Start on Rattlesnake Trail, follow race streamers and permanent blue diamond markings. Continue on Ridge Trail. At 2 miles, turn sharply left onto Mount Château South. Following this is a right hand turn onto Mount Château North. The next turn is a right hand turn up the hill onto Rhododendron Trail. From here, go down hill on The Wall Trail and straight to Clay Run Connector, then making a sharp left onto Powerline a little after 4.5 miles. Exit Powerline trail to the left onto Clay Run, which leads to the Reservoir. Run on the right next to the reservoir; after this, turn right onto Roadside to complete the loop. (You know this thing is on Strava this year because your predecessors don’t want you to suffer with the unknown course like they did.)

COURSE SUMMARY: Rattlesnake, Ridge, Mt. Chat (S), Mt. Chat (N), Rhodo, Wall, Clay Run Conn., Powerline, Clay Run, Roadside.
